Under separate authorizing acts for each program, the U.S. Mint will produce and sell up to 50,000 .900 fine gold coins, 400,000 .999 fine silver dollars, and 750,000 copper-nickel clad half dollars in both Proof and Uncirculated versions.
All of the gold coins in both series will be minted at the West Point Mint and will feature the W Mint mark, while the silver dollars will be struck at the Philadelphia Mint with the P Mint mark. The copper-nickel clad half dollars will bear the D Mint mark for Uncirculated coins from the Denver Mint, and the S Mint mark for Proof coins from the San Francisco Mint.

During the first month of sales, the Proof silver dollar will be available for $82 per coin, with the regular issue price increasing to $87 after 30 days. The Uncirculated silver dollars will have pre-issue and regular issue prices of $77 and $82, respectively. On the other hand, surcharges from the Greatest Generation coins will support the Friends of the National World War II Memorial.
Design Details
For the Greatest Generation commemorative coins, the obverse design of the gold $5 coins features the Memorial’s Wall of Stars and an olive branch, while the reverse showcases a folded flag. The silver dollar obverse depicts six figures supporting the Earth to represent the unity of military branches during World War II, with the reverse showing a victory pavilion with eagles holding a laurel wreath.
The copper-nickel clad half dollar displays a reimagining of the figure of Liberation on the World War II Victory medal on the obverse, while the reverse depicts the National WWII Memorial.
Additionally, the U.S. Mint will mint the three-coin sets for both programs at the West Point Mint and ship them to the U.S. Mint’s fulfillment center in Tennessee. Surcharges for each commemorative coin will be used to support various organizations associated with the designated themes of the coins.
