Review of Designs for U.S. Marine Corps Commemorative Products

CCAC Recommendations

The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee recommended proposed designs for the three-coin commemorative coin program in 2025 celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. The recommendations were made during a two-day meeting streamed live online over the United States Mint’s YouTube channel.

The CCAC members reviewed multiple proposed designs for each denomination, ultimately selecting the designs favored by representatives of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. This included a common reverse design that will be used for all three denominations.

Enabling Law and Specifications

Public Law 118-10 authorizes the production and release of up to 50,000 gold coins, 400,000 silver dollars, and 750,000 copper-nickel clad half dollars in Proof and Uncirculated versions. Surcharges of $35, $10, and $5 will be added to the purchase price of each coin respectively. The net surcharges will be allocated to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation to support the Marine Corps Heritage Center in Triangle, Virginia.

Recommended Designs

The recommended designs include a four-person Marine Corps Color Guard for the $5 gold coin, the flag raising at Iwo Jima for the silver dollar, and a modern Marine with a Continental Marine for the clad half dollar. A common reverse design featuring the eagle, globe, and anchor emblem of the Marine Corps was chosen for all three denominations.

Each coin will display specific inscriptions related to the Marine Corps and the respective denomination.
