These updated designs included enhanced details on the obverse and completely new designs on the reverse of both the silver and gold coins. Additionally, a notch was added to the reeded edge of the 1-ounce coins as a security measure.

For the 2024 1-ounce gold and silver bullion American Eagles, the notch is positioned at the 9 o’clock mark on the coin, whereas the 2023 issues had it at the 3 o’clock position. The notches are also present on the 2024-W Uncirculated and Proof coins from the West Point Mint, sold directly by the Mint to customers.
